Improve Access to Care

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network is committed to working with policymakers to ensure all Hoosiers have access to affordable health care services.

  • Ensure adequate access to health care. Policymakers should encourage regular evaluations of Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) 2.0 and key provisions of the Affordable Care Act to ensure the health care needs of all Hoosiers are being met. Legislative or regulatory adjustments may be needed to address issues such as adequate drug coverage, network adequacy, and affordability.

  • Improve access to affordable cancer screenings. The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) recently concluded a pilot program aimed at improving colorectal screening rates among uninsured residents. The pilot program was launched in select communities and was effective at increasing screening rates. Efforts like the colorectal screening program and the Breast & Cervical Cancer Program must be adequately funded in order to meet the needs of low-income, uninsured and underinsured Hoosiers and to detect more cancer early.
