Left Behind: Health and Hope in North Carolina

Medicaid Covers US Short Films

ACS CAN partnered with award-winning filmmaker Ky Dickens to create a series of short films. These shorts dive into the stories of community members and health professionals sharing their challenges and triumphs as they strive to take care of themselves, their families and their communities.

We encourage individuals and organizations to host screenings of any of the films. To help you host a screening, you can use our Screening Toolkit, as well as specific suggested discussion guides for faith groups, social workers and patient navigators, hospitals, and cancer centers.

Filmed in Kansas, this short explores how challenging it can be to get your health care needs met, and how for some Medicaid enables access to life saving treatment.

In rural Alabama, hospitals, providers and patients are facing serious challenges. This short dives into several rural areas and looks at the role Medicaid plays in local economies and hospitals.

In this short filmed in North Carolina, we meet farmers and childcare workers who are unable to access the care they need and explore what that means for their families and communities.
