We Can and Must Do Better

It’s Time to Reduce the Toll of Tobacco on Indiana

If nothing is done to reduce tobacco use 151,000 Hoosier kids will ultimately die prematurely from smoking.  Indiana can and must do better.  I call on Indiana lawmakers to reduce tobacco use by:

  • Increasing the cigarette tax by $2 per pack.
  • Increasing the tax on all other tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to parallel to the new cigarette tax.
  • Investing a portion of the tobacco tax revenue in fact-based tobacco prevention and cessation programs to prevent kids from starting to use tobacco and help people already addicted to quit.

Everyone deserves to live tobacco-free lives in cleaner, safer, healthier communities.  I urge Indiana lawmakers to support these policies to reduce tobacco use, protect kids, and save lives.
