Cancer Advocates Continue Push For Funding Increases for Cancer Programs in the Federal Budget

As the House continues trying to develop a budget blueprint for Fiscal Year 2007, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action NetworkSM (ACS CAN) today hailed progress in an effort to secure additional health funding and again called on lawmakers to support funding levels sufficient for helping put the country back on track toward achieving the nation’s challenge goal of eliminating suffering and death from cancer by the year 2015.

American Cancer Society Responds to United States Senate's Demonstration of Support for Cancer Research and Programs

“The American Cancer Society through its sister advocacy organization the American Cancer Society Cancer Action NetworkSM would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA), Tom Harkin (D-IA), and the 71 other members of the United States Senate who voted to provide an additional $7 billion to the budget for Fiscal Year 2007, some of which will be used to increase funding for health programs.

Cancer Advocates Urge Senate to Support Restoration and Increase of Health Program Funding

Following congressional approval last December of funding cuts for cancer research and programs and last month’s release of President Bush’s budget proposal that recommends further funding reductions, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network today urged senators to support a budget amendment by Sens. Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) that would restore these cuts and increase funding for medical research and programs.
