Bill to make today better for cancer patients passes important milestone

October 22, 2019

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of ACS CAN volunteers, our bill in the U.S. House to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors has reached a critical number of cosponsors on the legislation.

Earlier this year, ACS CAN challenged their volunteers to help the bill reach 290 cosponsors. Why is that number so important? Our bill champions strongly believe they can get a vote for passage if we secured that many co-sponsors on the legislation.

And ACS CAN volunteers helped us not only meet, but exceed, that goal by getting 292 cosponsors on the bill in record time. They called their lawmakers, attended meetings and urged their members of Congress to support this life-changing legislation.

If the bill passes, more cancer patients could receive a better type of cancer care that includes:

  • Less pain during treatment
  • Coordinated care among their doctors and other health professionals
  • Emotional support for themselves and their caregivers.

Right now, it isn’t yet clear when the U.S. House will vote on this important piece of legislation. It could be next month or even sometime next year.

Until then, join ACS CAN volunteers and continue to ask Congress to make today better for cancer patients and their families by cosponsoring this legislation.
