ACS CAN Volunteers Active in Top Tier Congressional Races

October 30, 2020

Amidst all of the drama this election season, there is one issue that candidates of all parties have been wanting to talk about – cancer.

ACS CAN volunteers have been meeting with candidates in the most hotly contested U.S. Senate and U.S. House races in the nation getting them on-the-record about cancer issues.

Our most popular event this year has been our new Coffee With The Candidate virtual event. In early October, ACS CAN volunteers had separate events with North Carolina U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R) and his Democratic opponent, Cal Cunningham. And both were ready to talk cancer issues. This short clip makes clear how they’re ready to support people impacted by cancer if they win.

We’ve also held similar Coffee events with major candidates in Montana, Colorado and Minnesota, and have more planned prior to election day.

Our volunteers in Minnesota went a step further, hosting a masked and safely distanced “Driveway Discussion” event with U.S. Congresswoman Angie Craig, a candidate in the high-profile race for the state’s 2nd congressional district.

And if you happened to be driving through Montana, you might have heard interviews with Governor Steve Bullock and U.S. Senator Steve Daines as they talked about how they plan to tackle cancer if they win in November. Their interviews were featured on the state’s Voices of Montana radio program that airs throughout the state. We’ve posted their comments on our website as well.

Even a pandemic can’t stop ACS CAN volunteer from connecting with candidates and making sure that, regardless of which candidate wins, they’ll have a clear understanding of what their constituents will expect of them in the fight against cancer.
